Studio

Studio

The history of the first recording studios dates back to the end of the 19th century. Over the decades, this industry developed dynamically and the quality of recordings improved significantly. This is how other iconic places were created such as the Abbey Road Studio in London, Motown Studio in Detroit or Sunset Sound in Los Angeles still being a model and ideal in the field of professional recording studios. At the end of the 20th century the world was on the threshold of the broadly understood digital revolution.

Music has become much more common and available, digital devices have started to match large, bulky analog devices so today digital solutions are used practically at every step in professional recordings. In a handy computer or digital mixer we have all the necessary tools for professional recording and the recording programs replace the great machines from previous times. Of course, some things don’t change. Still, in the process of mixing and mastering we need appropriate listening equipment, a properly prepared room, tools and – the most important – people with the intimate knowledge of how to use it all.

Following the spirit of the times, we want to open up to new opportunities offered by the combination of modern solutions with the experience acquired over the years of work. This gives us 3 opportunities to work on your creativity – stationary, remote or mobile.

A stationary recording

A stationary recording

is an appointment to record in the studio – preceded by a meeting, telephone conversation or e-mails about the details of the work. The advantage of such a solution is the guarantee of a properly prepared one room for recording music and the possibility of listening to and verifying the recorded tracks in studio conditions. The disadvantage is the need to come to our stationary headquarters in Łódź.

Mobile recording

it is an appointment at any place initiated by a telephone conversation or e-mails in order to arrange details. The advantage of this solution is a work in the place of your choice. However, it must be preceded by details regarding the material for the recordings, the instruments, the number of people involved in the recording, etc. It is also very important to determine whether it is to be a live recording (concert), for the so-called “Hundred” (i.e. a studio recording, but all performers play
and sing at the same time) or the recording of individual tracks of instruments and vocalists.

How to prepare for such a recording?

After specifying the details of the musical material, the most important factor is to focus on the choice of the recording room and the appropriate acoustics. If you have access, for example, to a local community center, a friendly club or a properly prepared rehearsal room, there is no problem. If we are recording at your home or in less acoustically adapted places I encourage you to read articles on this subject on the Internet and familiarize yourself with the main principles of preparing a room in terms of acoustics. Of course, we always provide help.

The work process during mobile recording begins with setting up the equipment, instruments, microphones and checking everything in terms of recording. Then we start acting according to previous arrangements. After each recording it is possible to listen to and accept the recorded part. The rest of the development of the material is a stationary work in our studio. The process of mixing and mastering requires appropriate conditions and tools to achieve the final desired effect.

After the first “mixes” you will receive material to listen to. Then your task will be to carefully listen to the recordings (preferably on equipment that you know well) and write down the corrections – giving the title of the song, the time of the fragment to be corrected and the type of error. The next step is taking your suggestions into account and sending the material for listening to for a second time. If there are any details to be improved we will refine your recording. 3 corrections of the mixed material are accepted. Therefore, we would ask you to listen carefully and define the problems as precisely as possible. After accepting the mixes of recordings, the material would be finally harmonized and sent to you in the format you need it.

The mixing and mastering stage is similar for all types of recording and music production.
